Sanford Jacoby is a professor at UCLA. He and his colleagues are trying to persuade Johns Hopkins University to stop honoring its former president, from 1935 to 1948.
His name was Isaiah Bowman. He believed in race eugenics and said terrible things about Black people. He also was an antisemite. He banned many Jewish students and professors from the university. He refused to help Jews trying to escape from the Nazis even though he could have helped yet the university displays his statue and puts his name on a road.
