Gigwise o singlu Remainder

„Anti-fascist psych rockers from Poland Trupa Trupa have released a video for a song pointing the finger at those whitewashing history. Holocaust denial is perhaps one of the big themes here and the music is very powerful. One of the best bands around at the moment, don’t sleep on these.

Gdansk-based psychedelic rockers Trupa Trupa released the arresting single 'Dream About’ back in February. It prompted us to catch their awesome live show at SXSW and we’ve been keeping a keen eye on their socials ever since hoping for the follow up. Their new single 'Remainder’, and accompanying video, is that follow up. The track centres around a cacophonous swirl of transcendent guitars, pounding motorik beats, and meaningful, Fugazi-influenced lyricism where we hear the words „It did not take place!” scornfully repeated in an intriguing melodic fashion.

„Oh my good God, I have seen the light! How have Trupa Trupa evaded me for so long? They played here last year becoming a bit of a LTW favourite when John covered them. The frontman is a ringer for Syd Barrett right down to the heads-down glissando guitar wailing from his Gibson SG. Fingers a blur as he hammers the strings up and down creating an all-enveloping fuzz. There is a dark almost industrial element to Trupa Trupa part Eastern European tropes, almost military chants before exploding in haunting guitars. So many influences – so much to take in!

„Polish outfit Trupa Trupa have just signed a deal with legendary U.S. label Sub Pop, and within precisely 45 seconds of their opening number it’s easy to see why. Their uncompromising blend of post-punk, grunge, and psych rock makes for a lethal concoction that’s one part Syd Barrett era Pink Floyd, one part Hawkwind, and the rest garnered from any number of late ’80s slacker bands you’d care to mention (we’ll go for Dinosaur Jr).”

„Poláci opět zasahují, vedle suverénních Trupa Trupa zaujalá i trojice z městečka Sadki. Jejich sofistikovaná elektro psychedelie se skvělým zpěvem bavila náramně.”

„Grzegorz Kwiatkowski is lead singer with Polish post-punk band Trupa Trupa, an outfit I saw for the first time in Bratislava last week. Yesterday, his documentary on ‘The Invisible Shoes of Stutthof Concentration Camp’ was broadcast on radio CBC. Trupa Trupa sits squarely in the dark poetic visions of Joy Division and Ist Ist – if you haven’t heard them then check them out on Spotify and Youtube. Their performance at Sharpe Festival last week was a true highlight.

Reportaż i artykuł z radia CBC – The invisible shoes of Stutthof concentration camp

„In 2015, the poet-musician Grzegorz Kwiatkowski made a strange discovery at the site of the former Stutthof concentration camp in Poland, something he calls „a carpet of abandoned shoes”. But these were more than shoes: they were both artifacts and symbols of the Holocaust, as well as a flashpoint of nationalist denialism and historical amnesia — especially in the current climate of authoritarianism, and the rising ghosts of neo-fascism.”
